Dark mode is a feature Apple announced at WWDC 2019 that brings a black background to the iPhone, iPad, and MacOS. This alternative color scheme takes less power than a white background, which could help with battery life, according to experts.

It’s been reported that some iOS 16 users are having issues with their lock screen or home screen wallpaper turning black after an update. Thankfully, there’s an easy fix that requires just a restart.

1. Go to Settings

The Settings app is one of the most important apps on an iPhone, as it gives you easy access to a wide range of features. You can make changes to everything from the way your phone works to the data it shares with other devices.

It’s possible to go to the Settings app in a number of ways, including by swiping down on your Home screen, tapping the search field and typing “settings” into it, or using Spotlight Search. However, if you’re having trouble finding the Settings app on your device, try restarting it or restoring from a backup.

Another way to go to the Settings app is by opening the App Library, which holds all of your installed apps on your iPhone. You can then search for settings by inserting a keyword, such as “volume,” into the search field and tap the Settings icon at the top of the list.

Apple’s dedicated dark mode lets you turn off the white backgrounds in most apps and convert them to black, a feature that can save your battery power. You can also set dark mode to automatically activate and switch off based on your location.

2. Go to Display & Brightness

Sometimes, your iPhone screen will go completely dark when you use it. This may be a result of a software bug or something else. There are a few things you can do to fix this issue.

The first thing you can try is a hard restart of your device. This will reset all the settings on your iPhone, and that should make it brighter again.

Another option is to change the auto-brightness setting. This can be found in the Display & Brightness section of Settings.

If the auto-brightness setting is on, it will automatically adjust your display’s brightness based on what’s around you. It can be helpful if you have a bright environment, but it can also cause your battery to drain faster if used regularly.

In addition to the automatic settings, you can also change the settings for the Brightness slider in Control Center. This is a quick way to get your iPhone screen to the correct brightness quickly.

However, you should note that the Brightness slider in Control Center is not the same as the one in Display & Brightness. To access it, swipe down from the top-right corner of your display on an iPhone X or later, or swipe up from the bottom edge of an iPhone 8 or earlier.

Finally, if you’re having problems with Dark Mode, it might be time to update your device to the latest version. This will fix all the bugs and improve the performance of your device.

3. Go to Appearance

If you’re tired of seeing the black background on your iPhone, it’s easy to change it. This will give your device a new look, and you can even set dark mode to come on automatically at times of the day if you want.

To get started, go to Appearance on an iPhone and tap on Wallpaper. This will take you to a list of available options, including “Stills” and “Live.” You’ll see a circle near the bottom of each option that indicates it has both light and dark mode versions.

Once you’ve found a wallpaper that you like, you can choose whether it will be the Lock Screen or Home Screen wallpaper. Then, you’ll need to change the Accent Color and Highlight Color to match your new dark background.

This will make the buttons and bars stand out better on your iPhone’s new dark background. You can also add widgets to your Home Screen to quickly access information that’s important to you.

You can also set the Lock Screen independently of your Home Screen, and tie it to a specific Focus Mode. For example, if you’d prefer that your iPhone’s lock screen be linked to “Do not disturb,” tap on the “Focus” button to create a new Focus Mode that will turn on your lock screen when that Focus mode is activated.

Apple’s dark mode feature is a great way to save battery power by converting white backgrounds in apps to a black background. However, if you don’t want to use it, it’s easy to turn off the feature.

4. Go to Color Filters

If you are looking for a way to turn off the black background on your iPhone, you might be glad to know that there is a feature available on iOS that will do just that. This is an Accessibility feature, and it will make your display easier to read at night or when the lighting is low.

It is also useful for people who are color blind, or for those who have trouble distinguishing colors when they look at things on their screens. The best part about this feature is that you can turn it on and off with ease, even if you have an older iPhone or iPad model.

You can enable this feature by going to the Settings app on your device and then tapping on Accessibility -& Display & Text Size -& Color Filters. Once you do this, you will be able to see multiple filters on your screen including grayscale, red/green filter, green/red filter, blue/yellow filter, and color tint.

Now, you can customize each of these filters by adjusting its intensity and hue using the sliders. This will help you get the most out of this handy Accessibility feature.

Another option is to turn on the “Invert Colors” feature. This feature will invert all of the colors on your screen, making them darker, and it will make the elements appear to be more distinct.

This is especially useful in dark rooms or when you are reading a book at night, and it will help you see the text easier. It is also useful for people who are colorblind, as it helps them differentiate between the different shades of colors.

5. Go to Focus Modes

There are several reasons why people might want to turn off their black background on their iPhone, including to improve their productivity. Luckily, it’s really easy to do.

The first step is to go to the Focus page in Settings and create a new mode. Then, you’ll need to define its conditions, like who is allowed to contact you and what apps can send notifications.

Another cool thing is that you can customize how a mode looks when you’re using it. For instance, you can make the app’s background dark when the mode is on or set a specific lock screen or wallpaper to match.

When you’re done, you can tap Save & Done to save your changes. Then, you can switch it back to the default mode if you don’t want to use it anymore.

Alternatively, you can choose to set up the Focus mode to automatically activate at certain times or places, when you open a specific app, or when a particular condition is met. You can automate this by using the Apple Shortcuts app to create triggers for Focus modes.
